Meet Jason Certain

Jason Certain brings more than three decades of basketball experience and 26 years in education to his role with DS Storm, combining his background as a player, coach, educator, and administrator to help develop young athletes both on and off the court.

A Plano, Texas native, Jason played varsity basketball in high school and earned a basketball scholarship to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, where he played for two years. He later transferred to Austin College, where he continued his playing career while earning his master’s degree in Education. During his time at Austin College, Jason also served as a graduate assistant, gaining valuable experience in collegiate athletics and education.

After college, Jason began his coaching career with boys basketball programs in The Colony and Flower Mound before moving to the Austin area with his family. He continued coaching while working in education at Hays CISD, where he developed a passion for mentoring young athletes and helping students reach their potential.

Jason eventually earned his principal certification and moved into educational administration, serving as a principal at both the elementary and middle school levels. Throughout his 26-year career in education, he carried the same principles from the basketball court into leadership: preparation, discipline, accountability, teamwork, and a commitment to helping others succeed.

After retiring from education, Jason transitioned into owning and operating his own landscaping business while continuing his passion for basketball. Today, he remains actively involved with DS Storm, serving in both coaching and administrative roles. His experience allows him to contribute not only to player development and on-court instruction, but also to the organization and leadership required to build a successful youth basketball program.

Jason believes youth basketball is about much more than wins and losses. His goal is to help athletes develop strong fundamentals, confidence, work ethic, resilience, and character while learning how to be great teammates and competitors. He is passionate about creating an environment where young athletes are challenged, supported, and prepared for the next level—both in basketball and in life.

Outside of basketball and his business, Jason is married to his wife, Kim, and they have two daughters, Madison, 25, and Riley, 20. Family remains an important part of Jason’s life and his commitment to investing in the next generation.
